Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists he has no personal grudge against Liverpool.
Fergie, who will be 70 on New Year's Eve, says edging ahead of Liverpool is not important for him personally - but believes it is for the club.
He feels it has the same sort of significance as trying to boost the number of times United have won the Champions League.
He added: "I don't think it means anything to me personally at all. I must say that.
"It's more for the club. For the history of the club it's important.
"It's like with the European Cup, you see the history of Real Madrid and AC Milan, and then there's another bracket with Liverpool, Ajax and Bayern Munich.
"We should definitely be in that bracket and, hopefully, I can take that step forward towards that on May 28."
