Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to bring Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric back to England. The Mirror says United were interested in signing Modric before he moved to Real and have been alerted to the fact the 27-year-old has been going through a hard time in Spain.
Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed he has received no encouragement over a move to re-sign Ronaldo, but Modric may well become available.
Modric is understood to have told friends that he is keen to return to the Premier League and has always been attracted to the prospect of moving to Old Trafford.
Chelsea also tried to sign Modric last summer and will reignite their interest in him, while Manchester City could join the hunt.
