Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists Michael Carrick early season struggle was always expected.
There have been reports of bust-ups between the pair, but Ferguson was delighted to see the Geordie on the scoresheet in last night's win over Wolfsburg.
Ferguson said: "Scoring a goal like that won't do Carrick any harm at all. He clearly enjoyed himself tonight.
"We've felt he has been a bit slow starting off every season since he came to us.
"It's not normally until October that he gets into his stride and I think you will see the same thing again."
