Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson knew son Darren would go into management as early as when he was nine years of age.
Darren Ferguson leads Peterborough United into their Championship kickoff today and Sir Alex told The Sun: "I saw this coming when he was a kid, because we had three sons and they all played football. But Darren was a natural footballer.
"And Darren was also a natural in terms of watching the game. I always remember he used to do match reports when I was manager at Aberdeen and I found them in his bedroom one day.
"I looked at this little exercise book he used to write in, and the first words I saw were: 'Dad picked the wrong team, blah, blah blah.' I thought 'What the hell...'
"He was only nine at the time. So he's always had a deep interest in the game.
"The only thing I said to him when he was young was that if you want to stay in the game prepare yourself for it - go for your coaching badges as soon as you can.
"He also went to that business management course at Warwick University, which they all end up doing now.
"It's a good idea, I think. The League Managers' Association have done well to support that."
