Man Utd boss Ferguson hopeful over Rooney fitness

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to have Wayne Rooney fit for Saturday's clash with West Ham.

The England striker sat out the Champions League victory over Barcelona, which saw the club secure a place in the final, because of a hip injury.

Ferguson will monitor Rooney's fitness over the next few days and said: "He may have a chance for Saturday.

"We just cancelled him out yesterday, he was in a lot of pain.

"It was his hip joint, he was never close to playing. It was out of the question.

"He will be a lot better in a few days and involved on Saturday somewhere along the line."
