Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hopes that Nemanja Vidic will escape a ban after being sent-off in the final of the Club World Cup in Tokyo.

The Independent says Vidic's dismissal creates the prospect of him missing United's Champions League visit to Internazionale.

The United manager is hopeful that the punishment will be no greater than that, with perhaps no ban at all.
