Man Utd boss Ferguson hands Evra extra time off after World Cup trauma

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has handed Patrice Evra a month off after France's traumatic World Cup campaign.

The Daily Star says United players involved in South Africa, including Wayne Rooney, have been given three weeks holiday before they need to report back for pre-season training - but boss Ferguson believes France international Evra needs an extra week.

The left-back played more games than any other United player last season, clocking up 60 games, including internationals.

His season ended on a low note as captain of the disgraced France team that went home early from the World Cup after failing to win a game in a campaign marred by bust-ups between the players and much-maligned coach Raymond Domenech.
