The Daily Star says Ferguson has sent scouts to watch Atletico Madrid’s highly-rated stopper with a summer swoop in mind.

But De Gea, 20, has now pledged his future to the La Liga outfit, forcing Fergie into looking elsewhere for a long-term replacement for the veteran Dutchman.

Schalke star Manuel Neuer, Rangers’ Allan McGregor and Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina are on United’s radar.
