Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says skipper Nemanja Vidic's fitness is fine.

Vidic did not make the squad for last night's epic 1-1 draw at Champions League opponents Real Madrid.

"We try and manage Vidic and Rio and if he had that extra day he would have been alright," said Ferguson speaking to Sky Sports before the game.

"But three days after playing on at a greasy pitch at Old Trafford would have been a risk for us, and I can't take a risk tonight."
