Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says Robin van Persie has suffered in recent weeks due to his heavy workload.

Ferguson argues Van Persie's goalscoring lapse in recent weeks has come from the number of games he's played this term.

"At Arsenal he has never seen such a busy and intense season," said Ferguson.

"We need to watch Van Persie carefully, but it's an area (player fitness) we have experience managing."
