Man Utd boss Ferguson: England should play Rooney on his own

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says Fabio Capello should consider playing Wayne Rooney as a lone striker for England.

Capello has admitted he's facing a dilemma over which striker to choose to play alongside Rooney.

With no obvious candidate emerging it's a headache for him - but Ferguson believes the solution is clear.

He told the People: "For me, it will be an option to play Wayne up front on his own at some point in games, it has to be.

"A lot of teams are doing that," said the United manager. "And I think most players in the English game have now had to accept it's a good way of playing.

"It is a problem who Capello plays up there with Wayne because there is no-one sticking their head out - it's a problem."
