Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he has a burning desire to overhaul Liverpool's record number of league titles.

United have 16, helped by boss Fergie's nine Premiership crowns.

But Liverpool's dominance in the 1970s and 80s has them two ahead on 18.

Fergie said: "We have won the FA Cup more times than anyone (11) and you get a certain pride in that.

"The same for Liverpool at this moment - they have won the title more times than anyone and they will be proud of that.

"But the chase is on, it will always be on, to be the No 1 in the country.

"I hope before I leave we can get to that position in terms of titles."
