Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has made contact with Inter Milan chief Marco Branca about their interest for Mario Balotelli.
Balotelli's agent has already confirmed an offer from Manchester City has arrived for the young forward and that has kicked Ferguson into action.
Sky Italia says Ferguson phoned Branca yesterday, declaring: "We will always be ready to offer 1 million (euros) more than City (for Balotelli)."
United have capped their bidding for Balotelli at £25 million and are determined to see off City to land the youngster.
