Man Utd boss Ferguson calls on Stretford End to roar them to victory

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has called on the Stretford End to roar them to victory tonight against Bayern Munich.

United must overturn a 2-1 deficit to reach the Champions League semifinals.

Ferguson said: "Old Trafford has got that suction towards the goal when we are really in full flow and the crowd is really up for it. The ball just seems to get sucked towards the Stretford End.

"It's an amazing feeling. There are too many of these moments to mention where we decide games in the last 15 minutes. It's not always entirely because of the team, it's because of the fans too. They make it happen. Hopefully that's the case against Bayern. There's no better sight. Last minute goals are not by accident. It's the nature of our stadium, it's the nature of the way we take risks to win the game."

However, engineering that kind of atmosphere isn't just down to supporters being up for the occasion. Sir Alex demands that his players put in the right performance to give the fans something to feed off.

"The thing most dear to my mind is the performance level," he said. "If we get the performance level right then it makes a difference. It makes a difference to the supporters and to the players' belief and confidence.

"The players were all disappointed on Saturday after losing to Chelsea, particularly at half time. But they did something about it. That tells you we have plenty in the locker."
