Man Utd to be without Carrick for three months

Manchester United have confirmed they are to be without the services of Michael Carrick for up to three months.

The 32-year old midfielder today underwent surgery on an ankle injury he suffered in training and is set to be out for between 10-12 weeks.

The news is a massive blow to new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal who was officially unveiled at a press conference today.

"It is a big blow because he is a very experienced player," said the Dutchman.
