Manchester United had the chance of signing Mario Balotelli before he joined Inter Milan.
El Mundo Deportivo says both United and Barcelona had a chance of signing Balotelli when he was with Serie C Lumezzane in 2006.
United and Barca both went well down the road in talks with Balotelli, but were frightened off by his agent's asking price, so leaving Inter clear to snap up the teenager.
