Manchester United have made an approach to Athletic Bilbao for Aymeric Laporte.

El Correo says Bilbao have quoted United a price of £35million for defender Laporte.

The Frenchman has impressed in La Liga after moving up to the first team and has represented his country at every age group up to U21 level.

Barcelona are also said to be interested, as they seek a long-term replacement for Carles Puyol.

United face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for the Frenchman's signature.
