Previous incumbent Tony Coton was forced into retirement by a troublesome knee injury last season.
Having taken stock of the situation and searched for a suitable full-time replacement, however, Sir Alex expects to have a new man in place for the start of the season.
"We have approached someone for the job and we're waiting for clearance to employ him," the manager told the club's official website. "Tony had to quit because of his knee situation and we didn't rush to appoint a successor.
"It was only 10 days ago that we decided who to get. We hope we'll have clearance by the beginning of August."
