Man Utd and General Motors discuss Ronaldo transfer battle plan

Manchester United are counting on the support of General Motors in their bid for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. The People says American car giants GM, who are due to start sponsoring United in a £55million-a-year deal through their brand Chevrolet from the 2014-15 season, are working with United's owners, the Glazer family, to help fund the Portuguese superstar's £55m transfer fee and £10m-a-year wages.

It is believed that General Motors want to buy out United's current sponsors Aon from the final year of their existing deal, which is due to expire in the summer of 2014.

They could then pay the majority of Ronaldo's wages if he returns to United, helping the club meet financial fair-play rules.

GM want United to sign a marquee player who would also act as a global ambassador for their company and Ronaldo fits the bill.

Sources close to Ronaldo insist the player is keen to leave the Bernabeu and return to Old Trafford.

Can GM make this deal happen? Or will Real convince Ronaldo to stay? Give us your shout below...
