Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says anything but winning the World Cup will be deemed a failure for the current England squad.
The Three Lions are one of the favourites for the crown in South Africa.
And Rooney said: "Success in South Africa would be to win the trophy. We've definitely got a good enough squad to do that. In the qualifying games we played extremely well and were disappointed to not win all of them. We'll prepare well for the finals and hopefully we can bring the trophy back home."
Rooney believes England can cope without him if he misses the World Cup.
The Manchester United striker is struggling with a groin injury but insists he will be fit for South Africa.
But he has played just 129 minutes in the last four weeks and he may not feature for United again this season.
Rooney said: "We have a lot of world-class players in the team and a great manager. If I get injured then so be it, there are other players there to do the job. There's a lot of hype but that's something you must live with."
