Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney admits Geordie legend Paul Gascoigne was his hero growing up.

Rooney said: "I used to watch Gazza all the time. You'd always watch the best player and try to do what he did when you went out on the street or when you played in games."

Rooney can't remember Gazza's tears in Italia 90.

"I was only four at the time," he added. "But I remember him scoring in Euro 96."
