Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits he feels in great nick.
Without a major tournament this summer, he has been able to enjoy a proper rest and was explosive in pre-season in America.
Against Seattle Sounders, he scored a 21-minute hat-trick in a 7-0 win.
The player himself is revelling in the new role he took on in the second half of last season as he was given free reign to drop deep and create as well as score.
Rooney said: "That's where I like playing the most. It's where I finished last season and I was really enjoying it."
At 25, Rooney, is now one of the elder statesmen in a young squad after a number of retirements.
Rooney said: "If you look around our dressing room, now it's all of a sudden gone a lot younger.
"There are young players coming into the team now who have that desire and hunger to win trophies."
