Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits wife Coleen talked him out of retiring from international football.
Rooney has seen stars including Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard all give up on England in their 30s to prolong their club careers.
The Three Lions' captain said: "I can't see myself stepping down from England, I don't think so, no.
"A lot of the players I have played with over the last 10 years have - Steven, Frank, Ashley, Rio Ferdinand, they have all retired from internationals.
"But I actually spoke to my wife about it. I said it's mad how all the players are retiring.
"When you get to a certain age, you almost feel like you have to do it to extend your club career.
"Coleen was actually very good. She was the one who said to me, 'It's a short career, you have plenty of time to have your time off with us as a family when you finish playing and you will regret it if you do retire'.
"I obviously thought, 'Yes I would'. Football is what I love doing. I love playing for my country so I would regret it. That's why I don't think I ever would walk away. I've always said I understand that football is a short career and you're retired a long time. I can say this now and you never know in the future."
