Darren Fletcher has hailed the performances of Manchester United youngsters Darron Gibson and Danny Welbeck in recent weeks.

United's squad has been hit hard by injury, with Fletcher and fellow senior midfielder Michael Carrick forced to play at the back.

Fletcher said: "We'll do the best we can but ultimately want our defenders fit as there are big games coming up.

"It shows the strength and depth of the squad. Michael Carrick and I played at the back in Wolfsburg. Darron Gibson has been different class, scoring goals. Danny Welbeck did well up front, even the younger lads on the bench could do a job."
