Robert Duverne is set to join Gerard Houllier's Aston Villa backroom team as new fitness coach.
Duverne, who previously worked with Houllier at Lyon, was the France coach who had a furious row with Les Bleus captain Patrice Evra when the revolting national team refused to train in South Africa.
Duverne had to be held apart from the Manchester United left back by France boss Raymond Domenech after a row over sending Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka home from the competition for insubordination.
The 43-year-old chose a change of direction after the World Cup to become assistant manager at newly promoted Ligue 1 side Arles-Avignon.
But after a 4-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday made it five defeats out of five, he resigned on Monday.
