Manchester City want to replace Carlos Tevez with another Argentine.
The Daily Mail says City's hopes of replacing Tevez with a talented teen expected to follow in the Argentine's footsteps could be scuppered by AC Milan.
Both City and Manchester United have watched 19-year-old Rogelio Funes Mori, but Milan are looking to get in first with a double deal for the striker and his River Plate team-mate Erik Lamela.
Funes Mori, a year older than midfielder Lamela, is keen to make the switch to Europe but would not come cheap.
He has previously been offered a trial at Chelsea and in 2008 won a US reality TV show to earn a contract with FC Dallas before being snapped up by River Plate, where he has enjoyed a breakthrough season.
