Man United cruise to victory at Blackburn

A contentious opening goal set Manchester United on the way to a 2-0 win over Blackburn at a rain lashed Ewood Park. United are now sixth in the table and Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson told Setanta Sports: "I think that's our best performance of the season in terms of possession and confidence of the team."

He explained: "It's always been a difficult ground for us over the years and they've always made it a battle against us and we've lost a couple of times here in the last four or five years."

Wes Brown opened the scoring for United with Rovers protesting that Nemanja Vidic had fouled keeper Jason Brown in the build-up.

However, Ferguson was not convinced: "I think the goalkeeper had every chance, the ball was in the air long enough for a goalkeeper to come and collect."

Wayne Rooney added a second after the break eliciting praise from the manager: "He's a very mobile player, Wayne. He sees space well, he's very active, he's got a lot of energy, he uses his energy in the right way I think now. It was his best performance of the season it has to be said."

Ferguson concluded: "It's going to be an interesting season. What we've got to do is make sure we have a consistency and try and take something from every game."
