Man City's Wright-Phillips delighted with Villa performance

Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips was delighted with their victory over Aston Villa.

SWP told City's website: "The Villa win rates very highly because we needed the points after the result last weekend. It has put us back in a position I think we deserve to be in.

"We felt in control of the game, but we know how good a team Aston Villa are. We knew that at some point they would have a better time of it, and we had to dig deep as a team to come out on top. We had watched a few videos of Villa, we were shown a few ways of beating them, and more or less we did exactly that.

"It was a good game to play in, they are a top four team and we knew what we had to do. As a team we know what we are capable of, it's all about going out on the pitch and producing it, which is exactly what we did."

His combinations with Stephen Ireland were a highlight of Wednesday night, with a one-two between the pair setting up the 89th minute clincher.

"We always try to set each other up, in previous games he has finished them off more than I have, but tonight I go on the end of one of one of his and put it away.

"I was trying to make it hard for Villa, playing with Elano and Stevie makes it easy to go into different areas. We all just filter in for each other."
