Manchester City defender Micah Richards has avoided surgery.
Richards has been told he will not need surgery on a knee problem that he feared could rule him out of Fabio Capello's first game in charge of England.
But the defender will miss Manchester City's FA Cup clash at Sheffield United tomorrow. City boss Sven Goran Eriksson said: "Richards needs five or six days' rest with a knee injury.
"Our medical people don't think Richards needs surgery so that is good news."
