Man City's Onuoha ready for preseason

After signing his new four-year contract, Nedum Onuoha declared he would be fit for the start of Manchester City's preseason.

Onuoha eased fears raised by his limping off late on in England U21's semi-final defeat to Holland last Wednesday, and he insists that he will be able to join in pre-season training when the City squad reconvene at Carrington next week.

"I just have a slight groin tear," he told City's website. "I think it's only a two-week injury but I should be back in training next week. I may have had my own separate regime when I was going back to Carrington anyway, because my last game with England was only two weeks before pre-season resumed.

"As I get older I'm realising that I've got to listen to what my body's telling me. In the past, when something's not felt right I've carried on playing and that's made things worse. Now, if something's not right then I'm not going to take a chance. This is only a two-week injury, but in the past that could have turned into two months because I had carried on."
