Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland will see a psychologist this week in a bid to move on from the embarrassing events of last week, when he lied about the death of two grandmothers in order to be excused from Republic of Ireland duty.

The Daily Mail says sources close to the 21-year-old, who returned to training yesterday, say that Ireland is shame-faced about his lies, which were told after he was upset that his girlfriend suffered a miscarriage.
