Flowers, now assistant boss at Coventry City, told the Sunday Mirror: "I am not surprised that Sven said Joe is a certain England No.1 of the future.
"He's got the lot, everything it takes to be the country's top keeper for years to come.
"It is easy to see why he might be compared to Peter Schmeichel because of his size and the way he tries to dominate his box.
"Peter made his name doing that - and of course there were those famous star saves of his.
"You can see Joe doing that now - although my guess is he didn't learn them from watching recordings of Peter in his heyday, but from Kasper.
"It was always going to be only natural that Kasper would try to imitate his father in some ways on the pitch and I'd bet that, having worked alongside him, Joe might have copied that stuff from Schmeichel Jnr."
