Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has moved to take the sting out of Saturday's controversial clash with Arsenal.
The Guardian says Adebayor has arranged to send a signed shirt to the steward who was hurt during Manchester City's defeat of Arsenal after the goal celebration that has left the striker facing Football Association sanctions.
The steward was struck on the head when Arsenal's supporters threw missiles after Adebayor ran the length of the pitch to goad them, having scored the third City goal in a 4-2 win. City have since established that, contrary to the initial reports from Greater Manchester police, the steward was not knocked unconscious and was able to continue work after he received medical treatment at the side of the pitch.
He was, however, "badly dazed" and Adebayor has asked the club to send a shirt along with a note expressing his regret, as a measure of his sympathy.
