Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will miss Wednesday night's trip to Sunderland.
The Belgian centre-half injured his hamstring late in Sunday's 3-0 win over Southampton which has forced him out of the midweek fixture at the Stadium of Light with the Black Cats.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini revealed that Kompany still has to undergo scans on the affected area but was confident he has the players to cover the loss of the influential skipper.
"We'll know this (Tuesday) afternoon exactly what Vincent has. He has an injury to his hamstring; we'll see how long it'll be," Pellegrini told reporters.
"We have Dedryck Boyata working well, we have Martin Demichelis and we have Bacary Sagna. We'll see which two of them will play."
City moved to second courtesy of their victory over the Saints while Sunderland held league leaders Chelsea to a 0-0 draw on Saturday to move up to 13th position on the table.
