Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp has labelled Raheem Sterling's first season at Manchester City as a disaster.
Sterling, who moved to City in a £49m move from Liverpool in the summer, has managed only six goals in the league this season.
The 21-year-old winger once again produced an underwhelming performance as City suffered a 4-2 defeat to Southampton on Sunday, prompting some harsh words from Redknapp.
Redknapp writes in his column for Daily Mail: "If one player at St Mary's looked like they were playing for a place in a Champions League semi-final, it was Sadio Mane (who scored a hat-trick), not Raheem Sterling.
"The two play in the same position but there was nothing similar about their performances on Sunday.
"Sterling has been a disappointment this season and as for City resting players for the Real Madrid game, since when was a 4-2 loss good preparation for anything?
"And with Liverpool losing and Leicester drawing at Old Trafford, it almost felt like a power shift in the Premier League."
