Man City winger Robinho grateful to Dunga for support

Manchester City star Robinho is grateful to Brazil coach Dunga for keeping faith with him.

On the pitch he has quickly become a talisman in City's struggling side but he has also attracted headlines for matters off the field. Last year he was quoted as challenging his team-mates' attitude, he left a training camp in Tenerife and last month he was questioned and released without charge following accusations of sexual assault.

However, he is glad he has always had Dunga's unfaltering support.

"I'm happy I can count on that," said Robinho, 25. "It's confirmation that I'm doing well. It really helps."

The Brazil coach has also urged people not to subject Robinho to a witch-hunt.

"We must stop this craze of judging people without seeing the facts," said Dunga. "He is a great kid and never had any problems wherever he has gone."

Dunga himself has been under fire for several months for Brazil's stuttering World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Selecao are second in the standings but are six points behind leaders Paraguay having drawn five of their 10 games.

However, Robinho insists he and his international team-mates are in good spirits.

"I'm happy that (Dunga) is also showing confidence in the team," he added. "The trust he has in us shows the quality of the team.

"There is a very good atmosphere indeed in the dressing room and among the team.

"We are all like friends and family.

"We might all be in different countries normally but it's great when we meet up."
