Manchester City are willing to meet Edinson Cavani's £54 million buyout clause in his Napoli contract.

City manager Roberto Mancini has been promised a marquee summer signing by player recruitment bosses Ferran Soriano and Txiki Beguiristain after missing out on top target Robin van Persie last year, says the Daily Express.

Cavani, Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao and Liverpool's Luis Suarez are the hit men in his sights.

But it's Cavani who is more likely to end up at the Etihad Stadium, with City prepared to shatter the British record £50m which brought Fernando Torres to Chelsea. Falcao appears destined for Chelsea while Liverpool would not give up Suarez without a fight.
