Manchester City are keen to broker a deal for Espanyol defender Victor Ruiz.
City chiefs Brian Marwood and Mike Rigg have identified Ruiz as one for the future after having him extensively scouted this season.
The Daily Mail says City hope to sign the Spaniard for £8m then allow him to return on loan.
They also have not yet given up on Benfica's £25m-rated defender David Luiz.
