Man City will send a statement with CL qualification - Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany feels a real message will be sent to the football community if the club can qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

City put themselves in a good position to do just that with a 3-0 away win at Villarreal last night but still need to successful navigate Napoli in three weeks time.

Kompany said it would be a strong statement for City to get through to the Round of 16 before doing some damage in that stage of the competition.

"I think the biggest statement would be to qualify," he said.

"We have finally got the campaign going and we feel the Champions League is something we can achieve good things in, just like the league.

"It was a good performance, very professional. We can move on from this.

"It is a difficult group but we had two games to win against Villarreal and we did it.

"Napoli away now will be unbelievable and I hope we will have a lot of supporters to see us. It will be a great game."
