Manchester City are joining the battle for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. AS says Mark Hughes' free-spending side will rival Barcelona and Real Madrid in a bidding war for the 22-year-old.
Barcelona insiders are confident of landing the midfielder, and may even make a move in January, though Fabregas has also emerged as a prime target for Madrid.
If he did leave Arsenal, the Catalan would most likely prefer a return to Barca, where he came through the ranks before moving to north London as a 16-year-old.
But Madrid and City can both outbid the European champions and pay higher wages. Hughes' side may seem like a step down, but their long-term plan - and money - has already attracted Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal.
