Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is ready to offer £17 million for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.
The Mirror says Mancini is ready to activate the buy-out clause in Cahill's Bolton contract and make the England defender his first signing of the transfer window.
Bolton manager Owen Coyle has been resigned to losing Cahill for months and wants to use his departure to strengthen his thin Wanderers squad.
Coyle would like at least one of Nedum Onuoha or Dedryck Boyata as makeweights in the deal with the balance in cash.
Mancini may be unwilling to sanction this and he has big hopes for the young defensive duo.
