Man City waiting for all-clear on new stand

Manchester City are still waiting to receive clearance to open the new stand at the Etihad Stadium.

A new third tier has been added to the expanding venue, which has increased the capacity of City's home to 55,000.

The Sky Blues were hopeful of opening the gates to their new stand for their blockbuster clash against Premier League champions Chelsea on August 16 but doubts have now emerged, as the club are yet to receive clearance from the Manchester City Council.

City will need to hold a test event at the stadium before a safety certificate can be granted and the delay has affected the ticket sales for the clash against Chelsea.
