Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis insists he treasures his time with Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine spent less than two months with Atletico before signing for Manchester City last season.

He explained: "My time at Atletico was somewhat unusual. There is another similar example, Roberto Ayala.

"I spent 45 days at Atletico and Manuel Pellegrini felt he needed a defender and was determined to get me.

"I am very grateful to Atleti, it was a very intense 45 days, with a hardworking coaching staff. It was a true reflection of the success they are having and I learned a lot. I thought that it was favorable for me to come to City and in time it proved right, I had a lot of games and went to the World Cup."
