Manchester City are launching a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.

With West Ham United pricing Scott Parker out of a move to Eastlands, City boss Mark Hughes is now ready to go outside the Premiership to boost his midfield.

The Mail on Sunday says Hughes is now considering Sporting Lisbon holding midfielder Veloso and has also looked at defenders in Holland. So far, only £12m Wayne Bridge has arrived from Chelsea in the January window.
