Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is eyeing a new bid for Mexican star Nery Castillo.
But the Blues, like several other Premier League sides, baulked at the £10m price tag even though that was considerably less than Shakhtar paid for the diminutive but extremely nippy striker from Olympiacos.
That figure is now set to tumble as Shakhtar re-assess their needs following a disappointing Champions League campaign that saw them finish bottom of Group D behind qualifiers Milan and Celtic.
Despite signing a five-year contract, Castillo has not been a recent regular in the side this season and, according to reports in Ukraine, Shakhtar may now be willing to let him go in order to trim a wage bill top heavy after bringing in foreign players for the Champions League.
