Vincent Kompany has been ruled out for up to six weeks according to reports.
The Manchester City captain had already been struggling with a calf injury this season and now it is believed that he will not be back in training until at least March.
The Daily Mail is of the belief that the central defender will have to rest for at least three weeks before working his way back to fitness over the ensuing two or three weeks before he is available for selection.
Kompany, who has made just 12 appearances this season, last played for City on Boxing Day and will continue to be sorely missed in Manuel Pellegrini's setup.
City sit second on the Premier League table, three points behind Leicester City following the weekend's 2-2 draw with West Ham United.
