Micah Richards has revealed that Manchester City did not give much respect to the Carling Cup last season and insists they will be out to do well in the competition this time around.
City exited the league cup in the third round last campaign but Richards says the players are determined to perform a lot better, starting with tomorrow's meeting with Birmingham City at Etihad Stadium.
"Last year we took it a bit lightly," Richards told the club's official website.
"I think this year we want to do something and there are a lot of quality players who weren't involved at the weekend who will be looking to get a start.
"We believe in our squad and are confident we can go through."
