Manchester City midfielder Elano has been slapped with a £40,000 fine.

Elano's fine, which represents a week's wages, came after a television blast that put extra pressure on Mark Hughes following a poor run of results, says The Sun.

The Brazilian midfielder, 27, said: "I can't hide from the fans or the president who wants to make this a big club. I think I have the capabilities to be playing. I respect the manager a lot but I cannot be happy if I'm not playing."
