Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany says success with Belgium is important for him.

As eager as he is to get back to work in Manchester, Kompany is happy to put it on hold to focus on international duties that also include a game against Croatia next Tuesday.

Kompany said: "Everybody knows I have big ambitions with Manchester City but everyone back home knows I have huge ambitions with my national team.

"We have a side now with Belgium who deserves success - not just because of the quality that is in the group, but because of the type of players we have.

"We have the character, the personalities."
