Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is expected to be out for up to a month with a thigh injury.

The Belgian centre-back sustained the problem in the weekend's win over Everton and will now be sidelined for a number of crucial matches for both club and country.

Kompany has been forced to withdraw from the Belgium squad for this Friday's World Cup qualifier against Croatia in Zagreb and Tuesday's home clash with Wales.

He is also expected to miss Premier League meetings with West Ham United, Chelsea and Newcastle United as well as a Champions League group stage fixture against CSKA Moscow.
